| Hughes, Lauren |
| Expertise | |
Lauren Hughes her personal research is on the use of taxonomy to understand broader concepts in systematics, biogeography, invasive species and natural history studies with a specialism in Peracarid Crustaceans. As a Principal curator at the Natural History Museum, London an important part of her role is advocating for the greater use of taxonomic information in research and leveraging Research Infrastructure. Throughout her career she has been involved in collection databases and developing interactive identification tools to facilitate use and awareness of biodiversity. She is currently working on several museum collection based metadata projects on Precise Locality (DWC) data cleaning for digital repatriation, historical expedition linkages and machine learning. Lauren would like to use this relevant experience to contribute to the steering committee goals of WoRMS to further expanding and unlocking the potential of this indispensable asset. She would be particularly interested exploring efficient ways to address gaps in synonymies, type locality and also surfacing information for smaller marine invertebrate groups/phyla with few remaining taxonomic specialists. | |
